Review: Tati Beauty Textured Neutrals Volume 1

If you’re a big fan of Tati Westbrook aka GlamlifeGuru on YouTube, then the moment you’ve been waiting for is finally here. After years of hinting that Tati is working on some beauty products, she was finally able to unveil her new makeup brand Tati Beauty! I, myself, am a big fan of Tati and her product reviews, so I couldn’t wait to finally see what she comes out with when the time came. Needless to say, I expected quality from someone who has been reviewing countless makeup products for years, and she has always stressed the importance of making products she can stand behind which made me feel hopeful of her makeup line when she finally announce the launch of her beauty brand. When Tati finally unveiled that her first product will be a textured neutrals palette, I was beyond ecstatic! It is so very Tati to come out with a neutral palette as her first beauty product, as it epitomizes her love for neutrals but with a twist on the shade range to help amp up and glamorize your makeup looks. I honestly was so impressed with how she broke down the shades and formulations. While I have seen a few palettes do something similar before, I have not seen one that has the extensive range of colors and textures that she included. The best part? You get 24 shades for $48! That is such a good price for a palette with this shade range and if anything I was a bit surprised that the price was that low.

First Impression

As mentioned, this palette is made up of mostly neutral eyeshadow colors, and I love how the shade range really allows most to create their eye makeup look using only the shades in the palette. The palette is made up of six distinct shades (gray/black, dark brown, copper brown, tan/midtone brown, flash and midtone purple) but in 4 different formulations (matte, sequin, metallic and glitter) making up 24 shades for the entire palette. While most people were excited for the pressed glitter formulation of the palette, I was most excited about the sequin formulation; this formulation has a matte base with microglitter. It is hard to find this kind of formulation because they either end up looking patchy or the glitter just ends up falling out and not really showing through when applied. The real test for me was how it’ll apply and wear throughout the day. I think Tati did a really good job with picking the colors and making the palette versatile despite the neutral color story. I was beyond impressed with how buttery smooth the formulation was and how pigmented they swatched with minimal effort. I knew I was going to fall in love with the matte version of Soothe because it’s just the perfect crease/blending color, but I really was intrigued with how its sequin version would look as a lid color. Another thing I was most excited about is that different textures for the shade “Poet”. I love using purples with neutrals and can see using the shades a lot for night outs or for days when I want to do a more fun neutral look. As for the packaging, it is very sleek and simple with a big mirror, definitely something easy to pack up for travel or if you like get ready on the go.

Below are some of the initial swatches I did for some of the shades. Note that these swatches are just very light taps on the eyeshadows with my fingers and swiped on to my arm. Isn’t it crazy how pigmented and how well they swatch?!

Wear

A simple eye look I did using “Soothe” in matte (crease) and sequin (lid).

A simple eye look I did using “Soothe” in matte (crease) and sequin (lid).

For the first time I used this palette I found myself using a lot of the mattes and the sequin formulation, especially of “Soothe”. I was aiming to do a natural everyday look and used the mattes in “Ritual” and “Memory” as a shadow eyeliner and used Soothe in the sequin formulation as my lid color. I was beyond impressed by how pigmented the colors were and how they easily blended out. As disclosed by Tati, there is a bit of a kickback with the mattes when using a brush to pick up the product, but it wasn’t so bad at all, and a small tap on your brush goes a long way to prevent fallouts. I was impressed by how well the microglitter stayed for the sequin formulation and found it was best to apply it with a flat lid brush like MAC’s 242 eye brush. Overall the color held on throughout a full day of wear and the microglitters of the sequin shadows stayed on.

The second time I used the palette I tried to incorporate more metallic and glitter shades. I will warn you that the glitter shades were quite bold and sparkly; it definitely will be the star of the look if you plan on using it. Make sure you are being conservative with the amount of product on your fingers/sponge tip because they pack on very quickly on your lids and can look extra blingy very easily. I was impressed with how well they went on and stayed on despite not using any glitter base at all. I found that the metallics were quite shiny, but not as metallic as I expected them to be, as the swatches online looked more sparkly. I definitely need to play more of the metallic colors but “Aura” in metallic was great for a pop of highlight on the inner corners and brow arch.

Final Verdict

I am beyond impressed with this palette! While an all neutral palette is nothing new in the beauty sphere, what set this palette apart is the way Tati curated the colors and incorporated different textures. Tati really did a great job of coming out with something that stood out from the palettes available in the market and launching a solid first product for her beauty brand! The eyeshadows are all very pigmented and blended well across the different formulations; they also stayed on very well throughout a full day/night of wear. I already packed this palette for a mini trip last weekend (the only palette I packed!) and found it satisfied my eyeshadow needs very well. I’m already considering buying a second one for my makeup kit as this will easily be a go to palette for all my pro makeup needs — from prom makeup to wedding makeup!

Personally, the winners for this palette are the matte and sequin formulation as they are probably the best I’ve tried, especially at this price point. I need to play more with the metallics as I’ve mentioned they did not show up as metallic as I hoped they would, although it might just be because I prefer an almost foiled metallic shadow. The only thing that I want to add is that you really need to be careful when using the glitter formula because it is quite chunky and can definitely build up fairly quickly, which can make your look very sparkly and over the top easily. If there was something I would recommend/would love to see for the future volumes it would be for them to use a finer glitter for the glitter shadows, but otherwise this palette is quite great! I definitely would recommend this palette for anyone who would like to have a solid neutrals palette or if you’re looking for the perfect holiday present for any makeup enthusiast in your life!
