Healthy Glowing Complexion for Spring

Something about Spring always inspires me to strip down my makeup routine and focus on achieving a beautiful looking complexion without using too many heavy makeup. Some days, it’s nice to just put the bare minimum of foundation, some blush or bronzer, mascara (in my case brush my lash extensions) and brow pencil and then call it a day while still looking polished. This usually means that I play around with a lot of different foundations and test how they look and wear on me. Most of them are usually light to medium (buildable) coverage, but the crucial part for me is making sure that my skintone looks even while still being able to breathe through the makeup. In my recent blog post, I talked about how to achieve flawless looking foundation, and now I want to talk about some of the foundations that I love to wear, especially when I just want that natural looking complexion.

  • Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation

This foundation is meant to be a natural looking medium coverage foundation that mimics the look of a naturally radiant skin spent outside on a sunny day. I know, that’s quite a promise, but somehow Chanel manages to do just that with this foundation. I honestly think that this foundation is more light to medium coverage, but let me tell you, I don’t think I’ve seen such a beautiful sheer to medium cover foundation that just covers my uneven skintone, but also makes my skin look soft and almost poreless. Usually, foundations that are heavier in coverage can do this, but that’s because they have a lot of fillers on them. I also love the fact that this foundation wears really well throughout the day and doesn’t break up on me. Most of the time, the reason why I don’t like lighter coverage foundation is that they tend to break up on me, especially around my chin or nose area as the day goes on. I never have to worry about that with this foundation, which makes it so easy for me to choose this as almost daily! The best part? It has SPF 25 and hyaluronic acid which is very beneficial for your skin.

  • La Mer Soft Fluid Longwear Foundation

I learned about this foundation because my friend wanted to sample it while we were shopping at Nordstrom one day. For the most part, I tend to not seek out these kinds of high end foundations because the formulation tends to always be geared towards more dry and mature skin, which isn’t really something I have to worry about. However, the artist in La Mer told me that this foundation is really great for a variety of skin types because while it is hydrating, it is not overly so where it feels and looks like it’s just sitting on your skin. I ended up trying it out, and oh my gosh was I blown away by this foundation! I mean for the price of this foundation, it’s reasonable to expect a lot, and I’m glad the quality justifies(for me) the price. This foundation is medium to full coverage with a natural silky finish, but I definitely try to sheer it out when I wear it during the day and then wear a fuller coverage for an evening event. What made me like this foundation a lot is the fact that it feels very weightless on and wears very well for a long time without budging. I once wore it for 16 hours and despite having to blot my oily face, the foundation stayed put! If you want a foundation for special occasions/evenings or just want to treat yourself, I definitely recommend for you to give this foundation a try!

  • L’Oreal Infallible 24H Fresh Wear Foundation

I remember seeing a lot of hype around this foundation on Insta when it first launched. In general, I feel like L’Oreal’s Infallible line has a pretty solid product lineup, especially as far as drugstore quality is concerned, and this one probably deserved that hype. I picked this up to try out and I was wowed by the fact that this quality of foundation is available in the drugstore now, albeit the price is a bit on the expensive side when comparing other drugstore foundation prices. The finish of this one reminds me of a slightly heavier coverage than the Chanel Les Beiges foundation, and the finish more of a natural matte than a natural glow. It definitely works as a great everyday foundation, especially if you want something more affordable. I would even recommend getting this foundation if you’re starting to build your freelance kit and don’t want to splurge. The only caveat I have with this foundation, is that it does tend to dry out my chin area as the day goes on (around hour 8) and breakup a bit. However, what saved this from making me hate it is the fact that it was so easy to fix it by dabbing a sponge over that area, which helps smoothe over the product and also just make sure to moisturize my chin area a bit more when wearing this foundation.

  • It Cosmetics CC+ Matte Cream

I’ve probably mentioned before how much I love the original It Cosmetics CC Cream, but I tried the matte version because as someone who is oily, I did need to powder my face around hour 6 when I was wearing the original version. I was hoping the need to powder with this formulation would lessen/be eliminated. I tend to wear this if I want to be lazy and just want to even out my complexion without wearing anything else. Literally, this is the lazy/on-the-go girl’s foundation dreams. I say that because sometimes I find myself applying this with my fingers and call it a day makeup-wise and that’s it—no powder, nor primer nor bronzer . And guess what? My skin still looks even and healthy; I can almost pretend I woke up with beautiful skin! What I like about this new formulation is that it really makes my skin look so much smoother and does stay matte throughout the day. Add to that the carefree application, and you’ve got yourself an on-the-go staple product!

As you can see there’s a bit of a trend with the foundations I’ve picked out. They tend to be ones that are lighter in coverage, look more like second skin and are easy to use and wear throughout the day. Maybe it’s me trying to avoid cakey looking foundation with the warmer and more humid weather, or maybe yet, it’s the fact that there’s so much that needs to be done during these warmer months (outdoors), that worrying about how your foundation looks throughout the day should be less of a concern. Either way, as the years pass by, I have noticed that I’ve tended to ascribe to the belief that less is more, especially in this case. Do you tend to do the same stripped down makeup look around Spring or Summer time? Or are there other things that you find yourself adjusting as the seasons change? Let me know in the comments below!
