Shopping My Makeup Stash: Spring Eyeshadow Palettes

Last week, I posted a photo on Instagram about some of the previous season’s eyeshadow palettes that inspired me for Spring. The thing is, I have this bad habit of buying eyeshadow palettes and then barely using them. I was confronted with this truth when I was re-arranging my makeup storage drawers recently and realized that I had an entire set of drawers filled with palettes that were just being stored away, barely used or swatched, some even unused. I wish I can say that I was proud to be the owner of these many palettes, and I guess to a certain extent I am, but I couldn’t help the guilt that I felt from letting these palettes sit there untouched. I can probably count with one hand the palettes I regularly use, mostly because while I enjoy getting palettes with a variety of colors, I tend to stick to neutrals for everyday wear. However, I have so many great palettes that have great neutrals and pops of colors, that I can still do a lot of wearable neutral looks, even with using these palettes. I’ve also been stuck in a makeup rut for a bit now and haven’t been into doing colorful looks in a while until recently. Maybe it’s seeing all the beautiful palettes and their pops of colors altogether, or the coachella/spring makeup looks I’ve seen on my feed lately, but I wanted to change this habit.

First thing I did was look at all the new palettes, I’ve not touched at all and figured out which ones are inspiring me to do fun makeup looks, either on myself or my upcoming makeup appointments for prom/wedding season. Next, I separated the ones that inspired me, and put them on one of the trays of my rolling cart that contains my everyday makeup staples. That way, instead of being tucked away, I am able to see them everytime I’m doing my makeup and get inspired to use some of them. The goal is to use these palettes for at least a few weeks to a month before I switch them out with another wave of palettes. Hopefully, at the end of that period I can decide which ones to keep, which ones to put away for my freelance kit, and which ones would be better off given to some of my friends and family who will use it more. I realized that while this process may be slow, not only will it push me to get creative with my makeup looks, but it will also help me slowly declutter my eyeshadow palette collection, because as it stands right now, there’s about 10 drawers of them. Another pro about this is that I will get the chance to rediscover and review older release palettes that are still available for purchase, or maybe even reinspire you with something you also had that you’ve put way yourself. As many of you know, the barrage of makeup releases has been impossible to keep up, especially with eyeshadow palettes, and I like the idea of using what I already have,

For my first round of shopping my makeup stash, here are the eyeshadow palettes I’ve put away:

  • Jeffree Star Thirsty - I love the selections of metallic golds and bronze eyeshadows and the pop of bright colors!

  • KKW Classic Blossom - This ones has a lot of neutrals that has pink and red undertones which is such a great selection for Spring neutrals. It reminded me of the new Mac eyeshadow palette from the Mac Boom Boom Bloom collection.

  • Huda Beauty New Nude - I really liked playing with the metallics and glitters on this palette during the Holidays, but for this Spring and Summer, I want to play around more with the matte options

  • Huda Beauty Obsession Palettes in Coral and Electric - Love the pop of colors in these and also Summer is the best time to wear lots of corals!

  • Tom Ford Quad in African Violet - This reminded me of sunsets at the beach, so of course I had to include this.

I am really excited to play around with these palettes and share some looks that I come up with you guys in the coming days! What do you think of this approach I’ve taken? How do you ladies try to make sure you use your palettes and rotating them? Please tell me I’m not the only one hoarding palettes here (asking for a friend)! Let’s chat in the comments below!
